Marcel Bruer Model B3 Wassily Chairs

€1,200.00

This pair of black leather and chrome Marcel Bruer B3 Wassily chairs was reproduced under licence by the Italian furniture maker Gavina in the late 1960’s.

The ‘Wassily Chair’, originally known as the Model B3 chair, was designed by Marcel Breuer by in 1925–1926 while he was the head of the cabinet-making workshop at the Staatliches Bauhaus school of craft and fine art in Dessau, Germany.

After the War years, Gavina picked up the license for the Wassily, along with the Breuer designs previously sold by Standard-Möbel, Lengyel & Co., and introduced the more recognized Wassily version that replaced the fabric with black leather straps.

This design classic exhibits the waxed stitching to the black leather hide; the knurled hex nuts; the same joins and welds, as well as the age-related wear, consummate with its history.
All chrome work has been cleaned and is in excellent condition.

The black leatherwork is without rips or significant wear and all stitching is solid.
Any minor cracking is minimal and has been photographed and all leatherwork has been cleaned and treated with a quality leather balm.

  • Height: 73cm
  • Width: 78cm

A superb design that will grace any home, nearly 100 years after Breuer’s visionary design.
